Key Insights on Top Websites in the United States in September 2026
Google strengthens its lead among the most visited websites in the the United States in September 2026, even as combined traffic across the top 150 sites declines. Google holds first place with 24.64 billion visits, followed by YouTube with 8.76 billion and Reddit with 2.37 billion. All three retain their August positions. Google attracts 2.8 times as many visits as YouTube, making the gap at the top especially wide.
ESPN and Instructure post the clearest gains outside the leading group. ESPN jumps from 26th to 18th as visits rise 51.4%, from 305.4 million to 462.4 million, making it a new top-20 site. Instructure climbs from 43rd to 25th, with visits surging 79.0% to 320.7 million. Within the top 10, ChatGPT rises from ninth to seventh on 1.12 billion visits, up 10.7% month over month.
Traffic remains heavily concentrated among the most popular websites in the United States. The top 10 account for 68.8% of visits to the 150 ranked sites, only slightly below August's 69.3%. The top three alone capture 54.6%, leaving less than half for the remaining 147 websites. These figures show that large rank gains further down the table do little to change who dominates overall traffic.
YouTube's decline is the month's standout exception to the stable top rankings. Its visits fall by 1.67 billion, or 16.0%, compared with August, despite its unchanged second-place position. That loss equals roughly 74% of the combined net decrease of 2.26 billion visits across the top 150 sites. Google, meanwhile, adds 95.6 million visits, widening the gap between the two leaders.
